She felt like the forest after a heavy rain, the clouds not yet lifted, a ladybug caught in a puddle struggling to breathe.
She tucked herself into her blazer and plastered on her smile, turned herself on, ready for the day. She knew the act of humans well - the nods, the smiles, the words, the shaking of a hand, a well-timed laugh. She knew the language, but it was as though they spoke in a different tongue.
When she got home, shed her blazer, and wiped off her smile, she looked in the mirror and found that even though she looked like them, she couldn't help but wonder if she was really human at all.
